Character Name: Ken Takakura

Canon Abilities:

At the beginning of the story, Ken is cursed by a youkai known as Turbo Granny and given a facsimile of her form when he taps into the curse. As he learned to gain control of this power and have her spiritual power sealed safely within him, he is capable of running at incredible speeds and making himself a torpedo against his enemies. Later, he is taught about another of Turbo Granny's capabilities, and was capable of traveling through phone lines near-instantaneously. While using the spiritual power, Ken is able to "Go All Out", which greatly increases his speed and ferocity when he needs it, but he seems only to be able to do this twice before he cannot transform again without a proper rest. Any further attempts heavily damages his body.

HOWEVER, as of his current canon point, Ken respected the deal he made with Turbo Granny: If she helped him get his stolen kintama back, he would give her back her spiritual power. With the power relinquished, Ken cannot currently assume the form and use the power.

🦋 Personality

Option 1:

1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?

He didn't at the start! Ken believes strongly that there exists life on other planets and wanted nothing more than to meet them. Heavily bullied throughout his entire life, Ken conceded to a life of being alone when it came to other humans, but wagered that aliens will just abduct anyone if given the chance and perhaps be friends with him instead. He pointedly scoffed at first at the idea of magic and the spiritual being a thing, as there was no basis in science like there was with extraterrestrial life, but that all changed when he was sent on a dare to investigate spooky activity in an abandoned tunnel. There, he encounters the youkai known as Turbo Granny, who then... ahem... steals his genitalia and proceeds to curse him for fleeing for his life. Getting literally cursed by a ghostly being swiftly changed his mind on the supernatural and spiritual, and throughout his adventures with Momo and his other companions, he meets more and more magical beings as well as aliens. To his misfortune, however, they all seem to be really aggressive rather than peaceful.


2. If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?

Ken's greatest wish would be for greater strength. Now that he has friends- people depending upon him and wanting him around- and (had) a power to help him turn the tides against foes who would harm his home and his life, he wants for nothing more than to be a dependable person worth being friends with. He is frequently depicted doing personal training during his free time, and eventually admitted that he wanted the others to think he was cool. He could wish for Momo to go back to normal or meet non-hostile aliens, sure, but he could achieve both of those things and more if he was just strong enough to achieve those goals himself!


3. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.

Without question, Momo Ayase, his first and closest friend. She was the first person in his life to ever address him as a person rather than a weird guy to assault and insult, and she quickly became someone he deeply treasures. Now that he has a friend, he wants nothing but the best for her and to be a better person, someone that she would continue to enjoy being friends with as a form of gratitude for giving him the chance that nobody else ever had. As they face supernatural challenges together over the course of their story, their bond deepens, and he and Momo become thick as thieves and communicate (mostly) well together when the going gets rough. If Momo goes somewhere dangerous, Ken wants to go too, and is usually the first to volunteer to dive into that hell with her so she never feels like she's alone. It's because feeling truly alone is something he knows all too well, and would never wish it upon a person. In truth, Ken would become an Adopted willingly if he knew Momo had eaten anything at the party. They've had too many close calls to be pulled apart now.


4. What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?

Despite his anxiousness and his lowered sense of self-worth at times, Ken never fails to express his utmost honesty, his strongest trait. He can come off like a bit of a killjoy with his blunt commentary at times, but hardly seems hesitant to express himself, even if it's to disagree with something or note that someone is being kind of foolish. It's a refreshing change of pace amid a sea of characters across media who constantly struggle to communicate or keep things close to their chest; on a number of occasions, he takes the time to talk to the others when there's a miscommunication, and outright demands that the other just be straight with him. As Ken makes friends with more and more characters, it's his honesty- as well as his kindness- that draws them to him and keeps him in their social orbit.

I will not choose, actually! See, poor Ken has been through so much crap involving aliens and ghosts both either wanting to steal his junk or invade his body while he just does what he can to survive in the day to day. So, wouldn't it be on brand for me not to make any choice for him whatsoever?

In short, dealer's choice. No preferences. Whatever court wants him gets him.
